Legal
Terms
These terms apply when you visit this site, send us a demo, request an account or use the artist portal. Your music stays yours.
DraftNot in force yet
Parties and scope
- These terms are an agreement between you and Moonlight Records [to be confirmed: UK company name, Companies House number and registered address] (“Moonlight Records”, “the label”, “we”).
- Moonlight Records is a music label. We only release tracks we choose. This site is not an open distribution service where anyone can upload music for release.
- Releasing a track is covered by a separate Release Agreement. Personal data is covered by our Privacy Policy. Demos are covered by the Demo Policy below. Rights complaints are covered by our Copyright and Complaints Policy.
- You accept these terms by using our services or by ticking a box to agree. An agreement made electronically, by ticking a box or pressing a button, is as binding as one signed by hand.
Age
- 18 or over: you can open an account and accept a Release Agreement yourself.
- 16 to 17: you can send demos. To open an account or accept a Release Agreement, you need written consent from a parent or guardian.
- Under 16: a parent or guardian sends demos for you and is named in your place.
- We may ask for proof of age or of consent before a release.
Accounts
- One account per person, for your own use. Do not share your password. Tell us at once if you think someone else is using your account.
- Keep your details accurate and up to date. Your legal name, country and payout method are used for agreements and payments.
- We deal with breaches step by step: a warning, then limits on features, then a suspension, then closing the account. Serious breaches, such as fake streams or false claims about rights, can lead to an immediate suspension.
- We tell you why, unless the law does not allow it. You can appeal a decision within [to be confirmed: number of days] by writing to [to be confirmed: contact email].
What you must not do
- Upload tracks, samples or artwork you do not have the rights to use.
- Upload content that is unlawful, hateful, violent or sexually explicit, or that invades someone else's privacy.
- Pretend to be someone else or another artist. Use a real person's voice, including an AI-generated copy of it, without that person's permission.
- Attack, overload, probe or get around the security of the site, or collect data from it with bots or other automated tools.
- Buy, order or create fake plays or followers for any track connected with the label, including through someone else.
- Use the site to send spam, malware or advertising we have not allowed.
Intellectual property
- The site design and the Moonlight Records name and logo belong to us. The music, artwork and artist images belong to the artists or other rights holders.
- Previews on the site are for personal listening only, not for commercial use. Nobody outside the label may re-upload the label's music, even with credit. This includes edited versions (sped up, slowed, nightcore, bass boosted), 1-hour or 10-hour loops, videos with only a still image, versions altered to avoid content recognition, and NFTs. Official sped up, slowed and similar versions that artists release through the label are not affected.
- The label and its artists reserve all rights to text and data mining, and to training AI models, on the music, artwork and content of this site. These uses need our written permission.
- To use the label's music in a video, game or advert, contact [to be confirmed: licensing email]. There is no free-use policy for creators at the moment.
Third-party sources and links
- Play and view counts on the site come from public sources (Spotify, YouTube, SoundCloud, JioSaavn). They can be late or differ, and they are not used to calculate payments.
- Links to music stores and social networks are covered by those services' own terms.
Notices
- We send notices about demos, releases and your account in the portal, and by email once email notifications are switched on. A notice takes effect when it appears in the portal.
- Keep your contact email up to date.
Changes to these terms
- We may change these terms when the site or the law changes. The date at the top shows the latest version.
- If a change affects account holders, we tell them in the portal at least 30 days before it applies.
- A change never alters a Release Agreement you have already accepted, unless you agree to it again.
Closing your account
- You can ask us to close your account at any time.
- Releases that are already out keep running under their Release Agreement until it ends. We keep the records we need to pay you and to meet our legal obligations.
Limits of liability
- The site and portal are provided as they are. We work to keep them running, but we do not promise they will always be available or free of errors.
- As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, such as lost profits or lost opportunities.
- Our total liability under these terms is limited to [to be confirmed: amount]. This limit does not apply to money the label owes an artist under a Release Agreement.
- Nothing in these terms excludes liability that the law does not allow us to exclude, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for deliberate wrongdoing.
Governing law and disputes
- These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
- If a problem comes up, we both try to settle it in good faith within 30 days after one of us raises it in writing.
- If that does not work, the courts of England and Wales decide.
- If you are a consumer, you keep the mandatory rights that the law where you live gives you. These terms do not take them away.

Demo Policy
Sending a demo transfers no rights to the label. The track stays yours, and we only release it if you accept a Release Agreement.
01Two ways to send
- Send a link, no account needed (on the Submit page): a private link to the track (SoundCloud, Google Drive, Dropbox or similar), your artist name, your email and a message if you like.
- Upload files in the portal (with an account): up to 10 demos waiting at a time.
- Only send tracks that have not been released anywhere, and that you hold all the rights to.
02Your rights in what you send
- You allow the label to listen to, download, store and share the demo within the label team, only to decide whether to release it.
- The label does not publish, release or license a demo, post it on social media or use it to train AI.
- Demos stay confidential: only you and the label team can play the files you upload to the portal.
03How we listen and reply
- The label never charges a fee to listen to a demo or to release a track.
- Every demo uploaded in the portal gets a decision: selected for release, or not selected. We do not promise detailed feedback.
- We may not reply to demos sent as a link. We only get in touch if we want to work on the track.
- Review time: [to be confirmed: review time]. If you have not heard from us by then, the track was not selected.
- Being selected is not a signed deal. A release only starts when you add the release details and accept the Release Agreement. The royalty share, the term and how your rights come back to you are all set out before you accept.
04While you wait
- You can still send the same track to other labels. If it gets signed elsewhere, tell us so we stop reviewing it.
- You can delete a demo in the portal while it is waiting, or ask us to delete a demo link you sent.
05Similar ideas
- The label hears a lot of music and works with many artists. We may already have, or later receive, tracks with ideas like yours.
- That alone does not mean we used your demo. What the law protects is the specific recording and composition, not general ideas or styles.
06Rights, samples and AI
- You confirm that you made the track or have the right to send it. Tell us about every sample and cover, and whether it is cleared. Do not send bootlegs or mashups.
- Tell us how AI was used: No, Partly, or Fully AI-generated. Using AI as a tool (sound design, stem separation, mastering) is allowed. Music stores ask for this on every release.
- Fully AI-generated tracks must be marked as such. The label may decline them, because many stores restrict them. Do not clone a real person's voice without permission.
- False statements about rights, samples or AI are a serious breach: the label may decline or remove the track and close the account.
